Restoration & Heritage Work

JJ Joinery specialise in all joinery restoration and heritage work including listed building renovations and replacement period manufactured joinery.

It is often the case, particularly in attractive areas such as Glossop and the High Peak that modern Upvc is unsuitable for use on local property. Particularly in the case of listed buildings, maintaining the original wooden windows and doors is preferential and if a replacement is required, the replacement must be similar in material and style to the original.

Many years of experience have given us the skills and craftsmanship to handle the most delicate of joinery work.

In the last few years we have worked for several local businesses who have been selected under the Glossopdale Townscape Heritage Initiative to receive grants to return the original look to shop fronts and reinstate historical details to joinery and stonework.

We have completed various heritage projects, details are in our past work collection below including sliding sash window restoration.

Below are a selection of our most recent heritage and restoration projects:

Shop Front Heritage Restoration

This project was to renew the shopfront of a retail premises on Glossop High Street. It required considerable structural work to the front elevation including structural steels and rebuilding the stone work.

We also replaced the shopfront and installed sliding sash windows to NEET guidelines set by the conservation department. The building was sandblasted and re-pointed in lime mortar and all internal work was made good as seen in the photos.

Bay Window Replacement

This project was a complete replacement of a bay window as the current window was beyond repair. We supplied customised double glazed units and fitted with traditional expert joinery skills.

Timber Sash Window

This property is located in a conservation area, meaning the replacement window and frame needed to closely match the original. It was therefore necessary to have the window manufactured to spec. We removed the original window before fitting the replacement timber sash window. As always we made sure the job was finished correctly by retouching the paintwork and making good the walls surrounding the window.
